The Minnesota Vikings wide receiver missed the team’s last game with a rib injury, but he recently said he expects to suit up this week.

During their Week 9 matchup against the Detroit Lions, the Minnesota Vikings were able to come out with a win despite top wide receiver Stefon Diggs sitting out with a rib injury.

Initially, there was some thought that Diggs might have been able to suit up. But ultimately, the Vikings felt it was best for the wide receiver to sit out and get some rest.

Thanks to Minnesota having a bye last week, Diggs now hasn’t seen the field since Week 8 against the New Orleans Saints. Although, the wide receiver’s time of not suiting up for the Vikings sounds like it could be coming to an end this week.

During a recent interview with NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Diggs said, “I know I will play,” in regards to his status for Minnesota’s big divisional matchup on Sunday night with the Chicago Bears. Rapoport also mentioned that the wide receiver took part in the Vikings’ practice on Monday.

While it’s enlightening to see that Diggs expects to play on Sunday, this is also similar to what he said two weeks ago before he eventually sat out the game against Detroit. His participation level during Minnesota’s practices this week will definitely be something to keep an eye on.

In addition to speaking with Rapoport, Diggs also spoke to Pro Football Talk recently and declared that his rib injury is nothing serious.

Is the Vikings’ wide receiver being truthful about his injury status or is he just more hopeful than anything that he will get back out on the field this weekend?

Time will tell, but it appears that Diggs is at least on the right track to returning for Minnesota at some point in the near future.
