19. Jim Langer

  • Position: Center
  • Years with Vikings: 1980-1981
  • Years in the NFL: 1970-1981
  • Other teams associated with: Cleveland Browns, Miami Dolphins
  • Enshrinement year: 1987

Born in Little Falls, Minnesota, Jim Langer always had connections to Minnesota. He made his way through schooling in the area, attending high school at Royalton and college at South Dakota State, where he earned an All-America honorable mention.

He went undrafted in 1970 but was signed by the Cleveland Browns. His first chance in the NFL didn’t last long, as he was cut during training camp. The Miami Dolphins then signed him as eased him into their rotation.

Over time, Langer became a force to be reckoned with as a blocker. He earned 6 Pro Bowl nods to go with 6 All-Pro teams and was a part of 2 Super Bowl winning teams when he was with the Dolphins.

Langer spent the final two seasons of his career with the Vikings, where he played in 22 games. His play inspired an NCAA award to be named after him, as the nation’s top NCAA Division II lineman wins the Jim Langer Award each year.
