Overall impression from Week 12

Once the early jitters got out of the way on this game, the Minnesota Vikings took control and never really looked back. This was one of the few occasions this season where the defense played well and the offense looked quite good at times, showing the potential of what this team can be when they put it all together.

The defense looked stout, limiting a high-powered Green Bay offense to only two touchdowns on the day while holding the Packers to 254 yards of total offense and sacking Aaron Rodgers four times as well.

Sheldon Richardson led the way, but solid performances from Trae Waynes, Harrison Smith, Linval Joseph and others who shined in a big way, especially when Green Bay was attempting to convert a third down.

Offensively, it was no turnovers and three passing touchdowns that were a winning formula for Minnesota. Efficient play from Kirk Cousins combined with great games from Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen, and Kyle Rudolph made for great football.

While Dalvin Cook only had 29 rushing yards on the day, he did well when Cousins got him the ball in space, catching three passes for 47 yards and a score.

The big concerns from this game are the injuries. Right tackle Brian O’Neill was being evaluated for a concussion while cornerback Xavier Rhodes left the game with a hamstring issue and didn’t return to action. Minnesota will need these two if they want to be as competitive as possible during the final five weeks of the season.

Vikings fans have to feel good about this win though. They hosted a division rival with their backs against the wall and put together one of their most complete games of the season when they needed it the most. Hopefully, the team continues to mesh and grow together as the season goes on.
