Vikings keep running and running
A big problem that Mike Zimmer had with former offensive coordinator John DeFilippo was the lack of emphasis he placed on the Vikings’ offense running the football this season.
In 13 games under DeFilippo this year, only one team in the NFL has carried the ball less than Minnesota. Due to this, the Vikings currently have the league’s 30th-ranked rushing attack.
With Kevin Stefanski now in charge of Minnesota’s offense for the rest of the season, one should expect him to tailor the team’s game-plans to better fit the requests of his head coach. Which means the Vikings will likely be running the ball much, much more during their final three matchups of the year.
That will begin on Sunday when Minnesota goes up against a Dolphins defense that is the fourth-worst in the NFL this season when it comes to stopping the run.
The Vikings’ backfield duo of Dalvin Cook and Latavius Murray will play a big role this week against Miami. Minnesota will stay committed to running the ball and end up with at least 30 rushing attempts for just the third time this year.
