The offense kept their foot on the gas

Despite the fact that they were sitting with a 21-0 lead over the Dolphins after the game’s first 15 minutes, the Vikings’ offense went onto the field for the first time in the third quarter with their lead cut down to just four points.

But instead of succumbing to the momentum Miami seemed to have on their side at that point, the Vikings closed out the game’s final two quarters by scoring 20 unanswered points.

Minnesota stuck with their game plan and didn’t get flustered by the Dolphins surge of points. By doing this, the Vikings had the win in the bag halfway through the fourth quarter.

Being able to withstand a run of points like Miami had on Sunday is the mark of smart coaching. Despite the Dolphins cutting the game a little too close for comfort, Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer and his team didn’t back down.

Instead, they put the pedal to the metal and made a statement to the rest of the top teams in the NFC. With the performance Minnesota had this week, having the thought that they could make some noise in this season’s playoffs doesn’t seem that crazy anymore.
