5 potential offensive coordinators for the Vikings in 2019
By Adam Patrick
Jim Bob Cooter
Four years ago, not many football fans even knew who Cooter was. But then he was able to help turn around a lackluster Detroit Lions offense and transform it into one of the best passing attacks in the NFL.
Unfortunately for Cooter, a number of his offensive weapons were unavailable for him to use for the majority of the 2018 season and it resulted in the Lions firing him.
If the Vikings are looking for an offensive coordinator who might be able to get the most out of Kirk Cousins next year, Cooter may be their guy.
In 2016 and 2017, Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford had two of the most efficient seasons of his career thanks to his offensive coordinator’s guidance. If not for Cooter, Stafford might have missed out on that lucrative extension he received from the Lions in 2017.
The former Detroit offensive coordinator does have experience in going up against teams in the NFC North each season. However, Cooter’s scheme tends to be more heavy on the passing attack and that may deter Mike Zimmer and Minnesota from adding him to their staff for 2019.
