Round Two

Jerry Tillery – DT (Notre Dame)

As much as fans will want the Vikings to draft three offensive linemen with their first three picks, odds are that head coach Mike Zimmer will want a new toy on the defensive side of the ball.

With their second-round selection, the Vikings go ahead and take Tillery, who had a breakout season with the Fighting Irish in 2018.

Tillery checks in at 6-foot-5 and 306 pounds and he would be a perfect addition to a Minnesota defensive line that had its depth tested up the middle last year with Linval Joseph being in and out of the lineup.

With solid length, Tillery is able to generate plenty of power up the middle and he would not only help create gaps for linebackers Eric Kendricks and Eric Wilson to make plays, but he would also help rush the passer as he racked up seven sacks in his senior season.

Defensive line is not the Vikings’ greatest need, but Joseph isn’t getting any younger as he’ll turn 31 next October. If Minnesota is also not able to re-sign Sheldon Richardson, things could get especially needy which makes Tillery, who is ranked 58th on Jon Ledyard’s big board, a solid pick.
