Redrafting the Minnesota Vikings’ 2018 NFL Draft class
By Matt Falk
Round 6 (first selection)
Marquez Valdes-Scantling – WR (South Florida)
Original Pick: Colby Gossett – OG (Appalachian State)
Valdes-Scantling was a nice little option for the Green Bay Packers offense in 2018. For a sixth-rounder to rack up 38 receptions for 581 yards and two touchdowns, it definitely isn’t too shabby.
Valdes-Scantling might never be a No. 1 or a No. 2 receiver in the NFL, but he makes one heck of a third option. At 6-foot-4, 206 pounds, to go along with some speedy legs, this is the type of guy that gets offensive coordinators excited to wake up in the morning.
Imagine tossing him on the Vikings with the likes of Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs and you make an already scary group of receivers into one that is downright terrifying.
Thoughts on original pick:
Minnesota has been horrible at attempting to find mid-round talent along the offensive line. Gossett is just another example of a swing and a miss.
Minnesota released him after the preseason and brought him back back to the practice squad for the first eight weeks of the season. The Arizona Cardinals ended up signing him away from the practice squad in October, bringing his Vikings career to an end.
