Look to the 2019 NFL Draft

This is a bit unconventional, but the Minnesota Vikings could use one of their top draft picks on a quarterback to act as the team’s backup rather than hitting free agency or trusting Kyle Sloter to fill in the role.

This year, CBS Sports has seven quarterbacks included in their top 100 players eligible for the draft and there are already some rumors that the team is particularly interested in West Virginia quarterback Will Grier.

Having a solid backup quarterback is so important that pushing some other needs on the roster to the later rounds might be a smart idea, but it is also a gamble. With the team needing bodies for the offensive line and to replace whichever defensive players they cannot afford to sign back to the team.

Still, the team could use some insurance for Kirk Cousins if they aren’t particularly confident in Kyle Sloter and grabbing one of the top young passers in the draft class to develop for two years before making a decision on Kirk Cousins when his guaranteed contract is up could be a route the team takes.
