Former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Wade Wilson has passed away at the age of 60. He spent from 1981 to 1991 with the team.
The Minnesota Vikings have enjoyed the pleasure of seeing many quarterbacks take the helm of the team and find success. One individual who was able to achieve some success at the position was Wade Wilson.
A member of the team from 1981 to 1991 where he played in 76 games and started 48, Wilson was named to the Pro Bowl in 1998. During his time with the franchise, he threw 66 touchdowns and gained 12,135 through the air. He is fourth all-time when it comes to total passing yards as well as passing yards for the Vikings.
Sadly, the news was shared by Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press on Twitter that Wade Wilson has passed away at the age of 60. Here is that tweet:
As Tomasson stated, Wilson was born on Feb. 1, 1959, making today his 60th birthday. Wilson made an impact on several organizations as a player, including the Atlanta Falcons, New Orleans Saints, Dallas Cowboys, and Oakland Raiders in a playing career which spanned 17 years.
Wilson was also a member of the Cowboys team during the 1995 NFL season where he was the backup to Pro Football Hall of Fame member Troy Aikman. That year, Dallas would go on to win Super Bowl XXX and earn him a ring.
When his playing days were over, Wilson wasn’t quite done with the NFL. In 2000, he joined the Dallas Cowboys coaching staff as the team’s quarterback coach, also performing that role for the Chicago Bears. Wilson coached from 2000 to 2017.
Our condolences go out to the Wilson family, his loved ones, and those whose lives Wade Wilson improved. He is a part of Minnesota Vikings history and we thank him for his contributions to the franchise as well as the sport of football.
