2018 Stats:

  • 16 receptions
  • 143 yards
  • 1 touchdown

If Williams wasn’t a former Gopher would he still be on this list? That’s hard to say, but what isn’t hard to say is this guy feels like he just has a bunch of untapped potential.

For whatever reason, maybe it’s was the amount of tight ends the Ravens always had on their roster, or maybe because of injuries, Williams just hasn’t been able to be the pass-catching threat that he was during his college days at Minnesota.

Measuring in at 6-foot-4, 252 pounds, he is a decent blocker, but he made a name for himself as a receiver in college. Williams racked up 61 catches for 986 yards and 13 touchdowns during his time as a Golden Gopher. That production ultimately led him to being a second-round draft choice by Baltimore in 2015.

Williams had a decent rookie season with the Ravens, hauling in 32 balls for 268 yards and a score. In 2016, he suffered a knee cartilage injury and missed the majority of the season.

Williams underwent surgery to repair his knee, but he hasn’t been the same since. Whether that was because he lost a step due to the procedure or he got passed up on the depth chart and lost the trust of Baltimore quarterback Joe Flacco is unclear.

Sometimes all a guy needs is a change of scenery to become productive. We saw it happen a year ago when Eric Ebron joined the Indianapolis Colts and maybe Williams could do the same with the Vikings.

Wouldn’t it be nice to see him finally become the pass-catching threat at tight end many thought he would be coming out of college and also do it while playing for his hometown team?
