Time appears to be up for Case Keenum in Denver after trade

The former Minnesota Vikings quarterback will likely be looking for a new team this offseason after the Denver Broncos have reportedly traded for Joe Flacco
After the Minnesota Vikings decided to move on from Case Keenum in 2018, the veteran quarterback ended up finding a new home with the Denver Broncos.
Keenum and the Broncos agreed to a two-year deal worth up to $36 million, with $25 million fully guaranteed. From the second the quarterback walked into their facilities, Denver seemed to go out of their way to make sure that everyone knew that he was the guy they wanted for the job all along.
Well all of that talk from the team’s front office seems to be false now as the Broncos have reportedly acquired quarterback Joe Flacco from the Baltimore Ravens via trade according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Wednesday.
The deal appears to be Denver’s way of telling Keenum that they’re moving on to someone new for 2019. Less than a year after signing the biggest contract of his life, the former Minnesota quarterback will likely be looking for a new team, once again, this offseason.
Thanks to his impressive performance for the Vikings in 2017, expectations may have been set a little too high for Keenum when he joined the Broncos. In 16 games for Denver last season, the 30-year-old quarterback threw for just 3,890 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions.
With Keenum under center for the whole year, the Broncos only managed to win six games and they failed to reach the playoffs for the third-straight season. Denver obviously felt it wasn’t necessary to give him another year as their starter and that’s why they made the trade for Flacco on Wednesday.
Where exactly Keenum will end up in 2019 is anyone’s guess. For those wondering, returning to Minnesota this year seems extremely unlikely.
Maybe down the road, Keenum will get another stint with the Vikings. But for the next two seasons, Minnesota is set with Kirk Cousins as their quarterback.
