Some Vikings fans enjoy taking their anger out on Kirk Cousins
By Adam Patrick
After the team’s disappointing 2018 season, some angry fans of the Minnesota Vikings have crept into the comments section of the quarterback’s social media accounts.
It’s certainly fair to say that the Minnesota Vikings had a disappointing season in 2018 during their first year with Kirk Cousins as their starting quarterback.
Slapped with the “Super Bowl or Bust” label before the season even began, Cousins and the Vikings weren’t even able to even qualify for a spot in the playoffs last year. While their quarterback did have some cringe-worthy moments in 2018, Minnesota’s lack of success last season were not entirely due to the play of their starting signal-caller.
But for a certain portion of the Vikings’ fan base, Cousins and his $84 million contract was the one and only reason why the team failed to make the playoffs last year. Just so the quarterback can know just how much his performance in 2018 hurt their feelings, these fans have decided to courageously creep into the comments section of Cousins’ various social media accounts.
If one were to take a gander at some of the comments left in the replies of the quarterback’s Twitter or Instagram accounts, they may find it hard to believe that these same people are actually rooting for Minnesota to achieve success out on the football field.
Cousins recently made a post where he told his followers that he would like to do a giveaway and he asked what people would like him to put up for grabs. Some of the replies left in his comments section were not what one would normally refer to as “friendly”.
“Give away 80 million, your only worth about 4.. and that spread out for 4 years.”
“Your contract so you can get off this team.”
“You already gave away the season, we don’t need anything else.”
“You quitting football would really get my energy up.”
“The remaining years on your contract. Please free us from your mediocrity.”
Those who left comments like these clearly forgot about everything else that factored into the Vikings’ disappointing season. But Cousins obviously seems like an easy target, so blame everything on him, right?
Similar remarks have been left by people in the comments section of virtually anything the Minnesota quarterback has posted on social media over the last few months. Cousins can’t even share a video of his son online without anyone complaining about his performance in 2018.
These people may feel better about themselves when they continue to degrade the quarterback who threw for the second-most passing yards in a single season in Vikings history last year. But their remarks are just making it easier to identify who the fools are in the team’s fan base.
