The Minnesota Vikings running back is scheduled to be a free-agent this offseason and he may want to go elsewhere to get more playing time.

For the 2019 season, the Minnesota Vikings appear to be set with Dalvin Cook as their starting running back. But deciding who Cook’s backup will be for next year is something the Vikings will have to figure out over the next few months.

Behind their top young running back for the last two seasons has been Latavius Murray. While his production hasn’t been amazing, Minnesota has been lucky to have Murray on their roster when Cook has been forced to miss time due to injury over the last two years.

This offseason, the veteran running back is scheduled to become a free-agent. While Murray has claimed that he would like to return to the Vikings in 2019, he’s also expressed interest in becoming a starter again.

However, he may not have as many offers from other teams for more playing time next season as would like. So returning to Minnesota may just end up being what Murray decides to do this year after all.

Recently, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox attempted to predict where some of the top free-agent running backs will land this offseason. For Murray, Knox has him staying put and agreeing to a new two-year deal with the Vikings.

To explain his prediction, he actually feels that it would be in Minnesota’s best interest to bring the veteran rusher back to the team due to Cook’s recent history with injuries.

It’s a legit reason, but it may not be the Vikings’ best option to choose from. Minnesota may want to give someone new an opportunity to be Cook’s backup in 2019 and that player could be someone who is currently on their roster, a free-agent, or a prospect from this year’s draft class.

Whatever the Vikings end up deciding to do, they must select a player who they feel comfortable with to be their starter for a few games in 2019 because Cook still has not been able to prove that he can remain on the field for an entire season just yet.
