Round 7 Pick 2: Gardner Minshew II, quarterback – Washington St.

With Trevor Siemian likely moving on, the Minnesota Vikings will be looking for a backup quarterback. While that might be Kyle Sloter or a free agent acquisition, that means the team will still need a third quarterback, practice squad project, or camp arm.

The 11th best quarterback in the draft class according to CBS Sports, Minshew spent his first two seasons at East Carolina where he completed 57.9 percent of his passes and threw 24 touchdowns in 17 games played.

It was Minshew’s 2018 campaign that found him looking like an NFL quarterback. It was when he arrived at Washington State when he played in all 13 games, completed 70.7 percent of his passes, threw for 4,779 yards, and tossed 38 touchdowns compared to only nine interceptions.

While his limited amount of excellence at the college level could scare teams off, he’s more than worth a gamble at the end of the draft so they don’t need to hunt down a priority undrafted free agent. If he continues to slip through the cracks of the draft, expect Minnesota to show some interest in the passer.
