As expected, the Minnesota Vikings were awarded three compensatory picks in the 2019 NFL Draft based on their free agency signing and losses.

It’s always good to have a wide variety of picks available for the NFL Draft. Having those selections available can make a team like the Minnesota Vikings be able to move up in the draft if they want or cast a wide net in hopes of catching more talent.

Good news came for the Vikings today when it was announced on the Vikings website that the three compensatory picks the team was expected to get were acquired and Minnesota now holds eight selections thanks to the addition of a sixth-round pick and two seventh-round selections.

Here is the list of draft picks the Minnesota Vikings currently hold heading into the 2019 NFL Draft:

  • First-round pick (No. 18 overall)
  • Second-round pick (No. overall)
  • Third-round pick (No. 81 overall)
  • Fourth-round pick (No. 114 overall)
  • Sixth-round pick (No. 178 overall)
  • Sixth-round pick (No. 209 overall)
  • Seventh-round pick (No. 247 overall)
  • Seventh-round pick (No. 250 overall)

With those picks, Minnesota should be able to move around in the draft to suit their needs as well as get a number of bodies into training camp to provide competition. However, half of their eight picks are in the sixth or seventh round where they don’t hold a lot of value.

Still, that doesn’t mean the Vikings can’t find some late round gems with those selections when the 2019 NFL Draft starts on Apr. 25th and runs through the 27th. The team has found some solid contributors in the last two rounds, such as David Morgan, Stephen Weatherly, and Jayron Kearse.

Hopefully, the Minnesota Vikings can acquire some of the most talented players in the draft to help improve the squad in hopes of returning to the postseason during the 2019 season. However, that will all depend on what the team can do at the 2019 NFL Draft.
