Minnesota Vikings Draft 2019: 3 prospects to watch for Day 3 – Part II
By Nik Edlund
Tyler Roemer – OT (San Diego State)
Obviously, the Vikings will be investing 2019 draft picks on the interior parts of their offensive line, as that was clearly the weakest part of the unit a season ago. But that doesn’t mean Minnesota will ignore the tackle position this year, as there is work to be done there as well.
There have been rumblings that the Vikings are considering moving left tackle Riley Reiff to guard and potentially moving Brian O’Neill to that Reiff’s old spot. Whether or not that happens remains to be seen, but at worst, Minnesota’s overall tackle depth could be improved.
Right now, the Vikings have Rashod Hill, who is hit or miss, and then unproven guys in Aviante Collins and Storm Norton as backups. That depth is truly horrifying.
Minnesota Vikings
A guy like Tyler Roemer makes a lot of sense late in the draft. Roemer is a squatch of a man standing 6-foot-7 and weighing in at 315 pounds. He moves extremely well and plays with a mean streak, as he attacks his defender and won’t stop until the whistle blows.
There are some concerns with Roemer though. The first being his overall character. He was suspended for undisclosed reasons for the final two games of the 2018 season and as a sophomore, he elected to leave the team and enter the NFL Draft rather than make amends and come back to the Aztecs.
Coinciding with this is the fact is he is basically just a sophomore and still raw. With another couple of seasons under his belt, Roemer could have become a much higher rated prospect.
It could work out well for Minnesota though. Roemer most likely will fall well into Day 3 and while he carries some baggage, he also possesses a ton of upside. He is a crapshoot kind of prospect, but one that could pay dividends for the Vikings.
