Captain Munnerlyn

2018 Stats:

  • 47 tackles
  • 9 pass breakups
  • 1 interception

The Carolina Panthers gave Munnerlyn his walking papers recently, tossing him back into the free agency pool for 2019. Even with a solid group of corners currently, the Vikings at least have to take a look Munnerlyn’s way.

He spent three years with Minnesota before making his way back to Carolina in 2017. Munnerlyn might be almost 31-years-old, but he can still contribute to an NFL team looking for depth. Last season for the Panthers, he played in all 16 games (starting five) and he ended up racking up two sacks and one interception.

So while he might not be the same Captain Munnerlyn we have watched shut down down receivers in the past, he could still receive a little interest from the Vikings this year.

This offseason could be the final time he signs with a team. Does he really want to go to a new city to end his career? Why not come back to a team and city you are familiar with.

Munnerlyn shouldn’t come at a very high price and he really shouldn’t be highly sought after. He could play the Terrence Newman role where he comes in adds depth at the position and helps a few of Minnesota’s youngsters like Mike Hughes and Holton Hill while he is at it.
