5 prospects who climbed the Vikings’ draft board after the Combine
By Nik Edlund
Devin Bush – LB (Michigan)
Devin Bush was seen as a prospect likely to go in the lower third of the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. After the combine, he’ll be coming off the board much sooner.
Bush’s performance at the combine just reinforced everything he’s shown on film. On tape, this guy flies to the ball carrier and hits like a missile. This speed showed up in his 40-yard dash time, which was second amongst all the linebackers in Indianapolis this weekend.
He did well in the bench press, vertical jump, and broad jump which just confirms that he is powerful and has great lower body explosion. As long as Bush impressed in the interviews, and showed a basic understanding of some key defensive concepts, he could be off the board within the first 20 picks of the 2019 draft.
The Vikings are in the market for a linebacker with Anthony Barr already pretty much packing his bags for the west coast. If the top offensive line options are off the board when Minnesota picks at No. 18, they’ll definitely consider Bush.
He would flourish in Mike Zimmer’s defense and he’d be a starter from day one. The Vikings might even consider Bush over some offensive line prospects, as he was that good at the combine. And, of course, with Zimmer being defensive minded, he could push for Minnesota’s first-round selection to be from that side of the ball.
