Minnesota Vikings: 15 best free agent acquisitions of all-time
By Adam Carlson
A third-round pick of the New York Giants during the 2003 NFL Draft, Visanthe Shiancoe came to Minnesota in 2007 where he immediately became an important part of the Vikings’ passing offense.
Staying with the team for five years, Shiancoe saw career-high numbers with Minnesota in receiving yards and touchdowns. His best seasons were in 2008 and 2009 when he played in all 32 regular season games for the Vikings.
He scored 27 touchdowns and had 2,424 receiving yards while wearing purple and gold. When compared to the three scores and 255 receiving yards he accumulated between his six years with the Giants, the New England Patriots and the Tennessee Titans, it shows how well he fit in with the Vikings.
Shiancoe was a consistent player for Minnesota, despite having a revolving door of quarterbacks throwing him the football. These signal-callers include Tarvaris Jackson, Kelly Holcomb, Brooks Bollinger, Gus Frerotte, Brett Favre, Joe Webb, Christian Ponder and Donovan McNabb. All eight of these quarterbacks started games for the Vikings over those five years Shiancoe was with the team.
