Predicting where the Vikings’ free-agents will sign in 2019
By Nik Edlund
Nick Easton – G/C
Nick Easton is coming off a scary neck injury that some considered career threatening. That injury makes his free-agent market very suspect.
He did have a very good 2017 season, where he started 12 games at left guard and more than held his own. He proved he can be an NFL starter who adds versatility as an option at both guard and center.
Coming off that bulging disk, he likely won’t be offered anything more than a one-year prove it deal. Why not take that deal with the Vikings and keep your family at home?
Easton can bounce back with a great and healthy season and then looked to get paid in 2020, whether that’s from the Vikings or someone else.
Prediction: Minnesota Vikings
Tom Compton – G
Tom Compton was terrible for the Vikings a season ago. He was consistently beaten, and a major reason Kirk Cousins was under constant pressure. An injury forced him into the starting lineup, but no one seems to have an answer as to why he stayed there for 14 games.
Compton will have a freezing cold market and if he does sign with another NFL team it won’t be until June.
Prediction: Arizona Hotshots of the AAF
Brett Jones – G/C
The Vikings traded a seventh-round pick late in the preseason to acquire Brett Jones from the New York Giants. He played fairly well filling in at center and he made the final 53-man roster.
But after Pat Elfein returned in Week 3, he no longer had a starting role. It’s surprising the team didn’t put him out there at guard for Remmers or Compton after both consistently struggled since he can play that position as well.
There is no chance Jones comes back to the Minnesota Vikings. He’ll get signed by someone and returning to the Big Apple is a possibility. There are a lot of teams needy for interior line help and a guy who can play guard and center will get a shot somewhere.
Prediction: Carolina Panthers
