Minnesota Vikings place tenders on two restricted free agents

In an effort to retain two important restricted free agents, the Minnesota Vikings have placed tenders on safety Anthony Harris and offensive tackle Rashod Hill.
The Minnesota Vikings are working hard in free agency today, making some moves to prepare their roster for free agency as well as the 2019 NFL Draft in hopes of getting back to the players this season.
Two of their decisions involve restricted free agents who they would like to have stay with the team and contribute this season. The Vikings have made the decision to place tenders on safety Anthony Harris and offensive tackle Rashod Hill.
Anthony Harris has received a second-round tender from the Minnesota Vikings. Here is what that means according to SportsNation:
"“Free agent can negotiate with other teams, but original team has option to match any deal and will receive a second-round selection if it opts not to match the deal.”"
Harris and his agents will still be able to talk with teams and receive offers for his services, but Minnesota will have the option to match that offer. If the Vikings don’t match the deal and he signs anywhere other than Minnesota, the Vikings would then earn a second-round selection.
This should secure Harris’ services for the 2019 season, but stranger things happen in the NFL and it shouldn’t be considered a lock until the team and player meet an agreement. Plus, a price tag of approximately $3 million comes with a second-round tender.
Meanwhile, offensive lineman Rashod Hill has received a right of refusal tender. Here is what SportsNation has for that tender:
"“Free agent can negotiate with other teams, but original team has option to match any deal. The team will not receive any compensation if it opts not to match another deal.”"
The Vikings should want to lock up Rashod Hill to be the team’s swing tackle since they already have Riley Reiff and Brian O’Neill to start on both sides of the line. With this tender, the team controls how much they will pay for his services yet allows him to see what his value is in the open market.
These two tenders are great moves for the Minnesota Vikings since they show the players they are serious about bringing them back to the team yet allow them to gauge what a fair price would be for their services. Hopefully, both Anthony Harris and Rashod Hill can make their way back to the Vikings for the 2019 NFL season.
