Round 2: Gerald Willis, DT – Miami

This is a great year for drafting a defensive tackle. The class is extremely deep with many prospects like Quinnen Williams, Ed Oliver, and Rashan Gary likely to be drafted in the first round. The good news is that the depth will allow the less discussed big men to fall.

Normally, Gerald Willis would be a guaranteed first-round pick. His swim move to break through offensive lines has become legendary with the Hurricanes, especially in the 2018 campaign, and should translate well to the NFL.

The only real concern might be Willis’ history. He has overcome a lot of problems in his personal life but has shown to have a temper, even during games…especially when a teammate is confronted or had a cheap hit delivered to them. Even after changing from Florida to Miami, he was suspended on several occasions.

The good news is that it sounds like Willis has cleaned up his act.  In his 12 games played in 2018, he racked up 59 total tackles (18 for a loss) and four sacks to go with two pass defenses and one fumble recovery. Considering his talent and ability, the small gamble on the brother of Landon Collins should be one that pays off mightily.
