Vikings seven round 2019 NFL mock draft: Free agency edition
By Adam Carlson
Round 6 Pick 1: Mark Fields, CB – Clemson
Cornerback is one spot where the Vikings have a lot of young talent. Xavier Rhodes, Trae Waynes, Mackensie Alexander, Mike Hughes, and Holton Hill all look to return to the team in 2019, but a lot can happen before the season starts and there are rumors the team may be hoping to move one of their higher-priced coverage men.
Even if there isn’t an opening in the cornerback group, Minnesota will likely pick one in the draft and why not take a chance on Mark Fields from Clemson since the biggest knock on him is that he isn’t known as being a ball hawk.
Fields did defend 11 passes while at Clemson in his four years there and only registered one interception, but he’s exactly the kind of player the Vikings should want to work through their system and learn from the experienced players ahead of him.
An under-the-radar player, Fields impressed at the combine by running a 4.37 40-yard dash. His speed partnered with his high levels of effort should make him an appealing candidate for Mike Zimmer to want to get a better look.
