Hunter Renfrow – WR (Clemson)

Renfrow was an extremely productive and reliable receiver during his time as a Clemson Tiger. In four seasons, he caught 186 balls for 2,133 yards and 15 touchdowns.

He runs very clean routes and is extremely quick when going in and out of his breaks. Renfrow is also a shifty runner with the football and he can pick up some yards after the catch.

He was invited to the Senior Bowl after the 2018 college season and he had a great performance during that week down in Mobile. He fared very well going one-on-one against some of the best cornerbacks in the nation and he used his elite route-running ability to gain separation.

So if Renfrow is such a good route runner, with hands of glue, and he has the college production and solid game tape, why is he being looked at as a Day 3 prospect? Well, that would have to do with his 5-foot-10, 184 pound frame.

He also doesn’t possess great speed as a runner (4.59 40-yard dash time at the 2019 combine).  There are concerns that his slight frame won’t be able to hold up in the NFL and that he’ll lack the speed to get separation.

The Vikings are looking for a third wide receiving option for next season. What Renfrow could be is the next Jarius Wright for Minnesota.

The Vikings really missed Wright a season ago. He was the guy Minnesota always seemed to throw to on third and short situations, and he always seemed to convert those to move the chains. Renfrow has a very similar game and he could be very productive and useful in the same role for the Vikings.
