Vikings Draft 2019: Head to Head – Dalton Risner vs. Chris Lindstrom
By Nik Edlund
Athleticism
Both of these big fellas move extremely well on film. They are quick out of their stances and can turn and lead plays around the edge.
If judging strictly on game tape the edge would go to Risner. He looks like a natural mover and appears to be much lighter on his feet. While Lindstrom gets to where he needs to be, he looks more heavy footed.
To be fair, the Combine needs to be the deciding factor on this one. They both participated in the lineman testing drills under the same circumstances. Lindstrom outperformed Risner in the 40-yard dash, vertical jump, broad jump, and the 3 cone drill. Risner was a few seconds better in the 20-yard shuttle. This is surprising as the game film tells a different story, but the analytics don’t lie.
Advantage: Lindstrom
Versatility
Versatility is the name of Risner’s game. He started out at center and then moved to tackle the last few seasons. He is projected as a guard in the NFL, so basically he can play all three line positions. Lindstrom was a guard his first couple of seasons but played tackle last year. Both of these guys bring versatility but Risner is a Swiss army knife of the offensive line.
Advantage: Risner
Character
Lindstrom is a clean cut dude who studied psychology in school. There are no red flags when it comes to his character and he seems like a guy that teams can invest in with no worries.
Risner also has great character but takes it to a whole new level. This guy already has his own charity The Risner Up foundation whose ultimate goal is to raise money and support to kids with cancer or special needs. He’s a true inspiration and a guy who is already giving back.
Another plus for Risner is that he’s very well spoken and a guy his NFL teammates will gravitate to.
Advantage: Risner
