Report: Vikings interested in signing former Titans offensive lineman
By Adam Patrick
In need of improving the talent level of their offensive line this offseason, the Minnesota Vikings are reportedly interested in free agent guard Josh Kline.
Other than re-signing Anthony Barr and bringing back Shamar Stephen, it’s been a pretty dull offseason for the Minnesota Vikings this year. But this really shouldn’t come as a huge surprise considering how little money the Vikings currently have to spend.
Despite their lack of funds, Minnesota still needs to figure out ways to improve their roster this offseason, especially when it comes to their offensive line.
On Sunday, KSTP’s Darren Wolfson reported that the Vikings are interested in adding free agent guard Josh Kline to their roster for 2019. Kline spent the last three seasons with the Tennessee Titans and he’s been in the NFL since 2013.
He recently became a free agent though after the Titans decided to release him. Kline had just one year remaining left on his contract, but obviously Tennessee felt he wasn’t worth keeping around for 2019.
He began his career in the league as an undrafted free agent with the New England Patriots in 2013. Kline then spent a total of three seasons with the Patriots before signing a four-year, $26 million deal with the Titans in 2016.
During his first two seasons with Tennessee, he was a solid blocker that performed at his best in pass protection. In 2018, however, Kline gave up a total of 38 quarterback pressures, including four sacks.
Despite his struggles last year, Minnesota is still reportedly interested in seeing if Kline can help their offensive line next season.
Currently, the Vikings only have around $2 million in cap space. So Kline will have to end up being pretty cheap if Minnesota is going to be able to add him to their roster.
The Vikings need to figure something out though, because the depth of their offensive line is basically non-existent at this point in time.
