Minnesota Vikings Draft 2019: Worst case scenario
By Nik Edlund
Trade Up
This may be cheating a bit for this particular list, but if things start falling badly for the Vikings, there is no reason for them to wait. Rick Spielman could package some picks together and move up to get ahead of the Washington Redskins and land the offensive lineman Minnesota may covet so badly.
The Vikings need a new starting guard for 2019 and if making a trade is the only way to ensure they get one, then a move up is very possible.
Minnesota hasn’t moved up from their original pick in many years. What the Vikings have done in the not so distant past though is move back into the first round. Minnesota did this when they took Harrison Smith in 2012 and they also jumped back into the first round to snag Teddy Bridgewater in 2014.
This could be something the Vikings do if they are forced to address a different position at pick No. 18 this year.
If Minnesota ends up taking a defensive player with the 18th pick like Christian Wilkins, they could move back into the later portions of the first round to snatch up a Dalton Risner or Chris Lindstrom. The Vikings would likely have to give up their second and third-round picks and possibly more or another early pick in 2020 to make the jump.
Minnesota may feel they have no other option, as their offensive line situation is that dire. There have been rumors the Vikings could trade Trae Waynes and maybe that is something that happens on draft day.
Instead of giving up numerous picks, Minnesota could package Waynes and a pick to get themselves in a position where they wouldn’t need to jump another team to land the blocker they desire.
