Will Grier (West Virginia)

Measurements:

Height: 6-foot-2 | Weight: 217 pounds

2018 Stats:

  • 3,864 yards, 67 percent completion rate
  • 37 touchdowns, 8 interceptions

If you’re basing this on reading tea leaves, Grier seems to be the Vikings’ first choice if they draft a quarterback this year. Although he had an average week at the Senior Bowl, Minnesota reportedly met with the West Virginia product for most of the week according to NFL insider Benjamin Albright.

Our own draftnik, Matt Falk touched on Grier’s strengths in his profile of the passer, but what you get is an accurate quarterback that doesn’t have a cannon for an arm. That seemed to work just fine at West Virginia as he threw 71 touchdowns and just 20 interceptions in his two seasons as the Mountaineers’ starter.

On the flip-side, there are a couple of questions that come with Grier. He received a year-long suspension during his time at Florida thanks to testing positive for a banned substance and while he has rebounded nicely, his decision making on the field is something that has held him back in the eyes of NFL scouts.

The good news is that Gary Kubiak’s offensive systems in the past have been quarterback friendly to the point where it has carried Matt Schaub to a decade-long career in the NFL. If the new system can curb Grier’s mistakes, he’ll have the time to develop into a solid player behind Kirk Cousins.
