  • 30 touchdowns, 7 interceptions

Outside of Grier and Jackson, it’s unlikely that the Vikings will find a future starter in the range they would be drafting a quarterback. Because of that, Minnesota will need to find passers that have a solid floor, but may not have the elite upside to become a future franchise savior.

The first of those names is Boise State quarterback Brett Rypien. The nephew of former Pro Bowler and Super Bowl MVP Mark Rypien, Brett turned in a solid career for the Broncos tossing 90 touchdowns and 29 interceptions as a four-year starter. While his accuracy is his strong suit, his arm isn’t as strong as some would like.

Because of that, Rypien relies on his accuracy too much to place the ball into a basket rather than trusting his arm. He also is a pure pocket passer, rushing for -102 yards (noting that college football subtracts yardage for sacks) during his four seasons.

Rypien is not a sexy pick, but he’d be a low-risk, selection if the Vikigns feel he’s an upgrade over what they have.
