T.J. Hockenson (Iowa)

Measurements:

Height: 6-foot-5 | Weight: 251 pounds

2018 Stats:

  • 49 catches, 760 yards, 6 touchdowns

At this point of the draft season, it would be a surprise if Hockenson was still on the board when the Vikings get their first chance to make a selection at pick No. 18. But, stranger things have happened.

Adding a guy like Hockenson, who will be ready on day one to contribute at a high level, would give this Minnesota offense options it has never seen before at the tight end position. Pairing a dynamic pass catcher like Hockenson up with a top 10 tight end in Kyle Rudolph would be a thing of beauty.

Hockenson is the favorite to be the first tight end off the board ahead of fellow Iowa tight end Noah Fant. Not only has he proven during his two years at Iowa that he can make big plays as a pass catcher, but he has also proven his worth as a blocker as well.

The biggest problem with the Vikings taking Hockenson will be the fact it would cost them a first-round selection. Which means Minnesota would have to wait another round before addressing the offensive line.

But when a value like Hockenson is available, sometimes you put talent above need. Something the Vikings have proven in the past that they aren’t afraid to do.
