The Minnesota Vikings brought back Shamar Stephen to play defensive tackle next to Linval Joseph in 2019, and while that moves help, it won’t stop them from using an early pick on a penetrating defensive lineman in the 2019 NFL Draft.

The Minnesota Vikings knew they wouldn’t be able to bring back Sheldon Richardson in 2019. He came to Minnesota on a one-year deal in search of a title, and when that didn’t happen he looked to get paid from the highest bidder and he did just that.

The Vikings brought Shamar Stephen back to line up next to Linval Joseph next year, but he’s more of a run-stuffer and not a true disrupting type of player that usually plays the three-technique position.

Minnesota also has Jalyn Holmes on the roster and maybe he can fill that role, but it wouldn’t be a bit surprising to see them select a player fairly early in this year’s draft.

If they do it in round two, there should be some nice options on the board. Two of those guys could be Ohio State’s Dre’Mont Jones and Texas’ Charles Omenihu.

We will pair those two head to head, and see which one comes out on top to become the clear favorite to end up in purple this year.
