Minnesota Vikings Draft 2019: Four-round mock draft – 3.0
By Matt Falk
First Round
Jonah Williams – OT (Alabama)
Early on in the draft season, having Williams fall to the Vikings at pick No. 18 in the first round would have been laughable. But lately, it doesn’t seem too far fetched.
If the big man is on the board at pick 18, it is hard to imagine Minnesota passing on the potential franchise offensive lineman.
Williams has been one of the best in the country for the past few years. The 6-foot-5, 301 pound lineman has been a starter for Alabama since his freshman year. Teams will fall in love with his desire to watch film and his knack for always looking to improve his game. Williams is a very motivated and determined to be one of the best.
While he can play either tackle position and he has also been looked at as a possibility to move inside to guard, his long term position in the NFL is most likely as the ever important left tackle. With his athletic ability and above average technique, he has the chance to be an anchor on an offensive line for the next 10 years.
The big question with Williams joining the Vikings is what do they do with him? Minnesota currently has both Riley Reiff and Brian O’Neill as their starting tackles. But for an offensive line like the Vikings’ that has many holes and many questions moving forward, too many talented tackles could be a good problem for them to have.
Williams gives Minnesota the ability to play around with possibly moving Reiff inside, or even Williams inside for a year.
