Second Round

Charles Omenihu – DE (Texas)

When you look at the current state of the Vikings’ defensive end situation, it might not scream need. But when you take a deeper look, you can see why Minnesota will most likely have this as a need come draft day.

Danielle Hunter is signed through 2023, so no worries there. But Everson Griffen is 31-years-old and Stephen Weatherly is entering the last season of his contract.

Behind them on the depth chart, there isn’t much to get excited about. You always hear that teams can never have enough depth along the lines, which couldn’t be more true.

The Vikings have been closely tied to Omenihu over the past few months and rightfully so. The former Longhorn defender has all the tools to be a solid defensive end in the NFL.

Not only does he stand at 6-foot-6 and weigh in at 274 pounds, but he also has the athletic ability that has turned heads all year. The big knock on him is that he is extremely raw. But Minnesota’s coaching staff did pretty well with another raw defensive end a few years ago in Hunter.

While Omenihu might not have the ceiling of a Hunter, he does have the traits to be a very good starting defensive end who could end up being a 10-plus sack guy.
