D.K. Metcalf – WR (Ole Miss)

While D.K. Metcalf does have high bust potential, his ceiling is out of this world. He would be a matchup nightmare for any of the Vikings’ current corners, or any corner in the league for that matter.

Look at this guy’s freakish size, strength, and speed. He is an absolutely shredded at 6-foot-3 and 228 pounds. At that size, he ran a pants-droppingly good time of 4.33 seconds in the 40-yard dash at this year’s NFL Scouting Combine, where he also put up 225 pounds 27 times on the bench press.

He is explosive out of his stance and he can make breaks so quickly that if a cornerback blinks, he’ll miss him and be left in the dust.

Metcalf is still an unfinished prospect though, as he could use more refining of his routes and he also needs to spend some time on the jugs machine to work on his hands. He will be a deep threat the second he steps onto the NFL turf. But he won’t be a complete receiver until he gets some coaching up and experience.

If this guy does reach his potential and gets paired with a quarterback like the Packers’ Aaron Rodgers or the Lions’ Matt Stafford, it will be nothing but trouble for Minnesota’s secondary. The Vikings will have to bump him on the line and float a safety over to his side of the field at all times.

However, it would be fun seeing Metcalf go up against Xavier Rhodes a couple of times a year and it’s a good bet that some of those battles would go Rhodes’ way. The worry is, for the battles that don’t land in their favor, how bad will he hurt the Vikings?
