The Minnesota Vikings will reportedly sign former Salt Lake City Stallions pass rusher Karter Schult, who was a sack machine in the AAF.

There’s no denying the Minnesota Vikings have always seen potential in Karter Schult. The defensive end was invited to the team’s rookie minicamp before being poached by the Carolina Panthers for the preseason. Now, it appears he will return to wear purple and gold.

Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press has confirmed a report from NFL Draft Diamonds that the Vikings will be signing Schult following an impressive season in the AAF where he had nine sacks in and 23 solo tackles in eight weeks playing with the Salt Lake City Stallions.

Here is the tweet from Tomasson confirming the transaction:

Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing in at 240 pounds, Schult is a former University of Northern Iowa standout took some time learning from former NFL linebacker Bryce Paup and showcased those skills in the AAF, earning him another look from teams when the organization folded.

Minnesota already has a ton of talent at defensive end, with starters Everson Griffen and Danielle Hunter both being Pro Bowl players and guys like Stephen Weatherly, Jalyn Holmes, Ifeadi Odenigbo,  and Tashawn Bower behind them. Still, you can never have enough quality pass rushers in a Mike Zimmer defense.

Coming into the 2019 NFL Draft, many experts saw defensive end/edge rusher as a big need for the Vikings but considering all the talent and depth on the team’s roster it might be unlikely for them to use an early-to-mid range draft pick on a defensive end after this signing.

We at The Viking Age would like to welcome Karter Schult back to the Minnesota Vikings and hopefully his time with the team will last quite a bit longer than last time he visited the Land of 10,000 Lakes.
