Kaleb McGary (Washington)

McGary is a hot name lately in draft circles and he will likely end up going sometime in round two or round three.

There is plenty to like about this guy. He’s a giant standing at 6-foot-7 and he tips the scales at 317 pounds. He’s got long, gangly arms that create plenty of space between him and the defender that is trying to get past him. McGary is also plenty strong and he uses both his upper body and lower body to move big defensive tackles out of the way.

As far as negatives go for the former Washington offensive tackle, the biggest knocks are mostly technique based.

He lacks elite foot skills and he isn’t a natural mover laterally. McGary too often relied on his power and if he can’t get his hands on his guy right away, he can get beat by athletic edge rushers who can bend and twist around him.

His future in the NFL is likely on the right side and he will need some seasoning before being asked to take the field every Sunday in the fall.

The Vikings would be wise to use a second or a third-round choice on McGary this year. He would come in and be Minnesota’s best backup offensive tackle on the depth chart.

Yes, he needs some polishing up, but the Vikings wouldn’t need him to step on the field on day one. He can get coached up and brought along slowly and then unleashed a year or two down the road.
