4. Who will be the Vikings No. 3 wide receiver?

The Vikings’ third wide receiver spot is currently very much up in the air. As the roster stands now Laquon Treadwell, Brandon Zylstra, Jeff Badet, and Chad Beebe are all in the mix for the role.

It’s hard to pick a favorite to win the job out of those three as Treadwell’s inconsistencies with catching the football last season earned him the dismay of Mike Zimmer and the entire coaching staff.

Minnesota could and should look to the 2019 NFL Draft for help. How early they do so will reveal a lot about how they feel about the current players vying for that No. 3 receiver job.

The Vikings could find very tempting options at wide receiver as early as pick No. 18 in the first round. There is a small chance that super-freak D.K. Metcalf could still be on the board as well as 6-foot-5 speedster Hakeem Butler from Iowa State.

Even if these guys are available when Minnesota is on the clock in the first round, it seems like a stretch that general manager Rick Spielman would take one of them over an offensive lineman. Although, it could be a very different story in round two.

There’s a good chance that when the Vikings are on the clock in the second round, the best value could be at wide receiver. They could see guys like Deebo Samuel, Kelvin Harmon, and Parris Campbell remaining on the board. If Minnesota took any of these three guys, they would have to be considered the early favorite for the team’s third receiver job next season.

There is a lot of talent at wide receiver in this year’s draft and the Vikings could realistically end up taking more than one. It would make sense that they look for a bigger bodied guy who can go up and high point the ball in the end zone or make tough catches over the middle.

Whoever Minnesota ends up taking will definitely be in competition for that No. 3 spot this year. In what round this rookie pass catcher is taken will also say a lot regarding his chances of stepping onto the field come Week 1.
