5 defensive tackles the Vikings could select in the 2019 NFL Draft
By Matt Falk
Gerald Willis (Miami)
Measurements:
Height: 6-foot-2 | Weight: 302 lbs
2018 Stats:
- 59 tackles (18 for a loss)
- 4 sacks, 1 fumble recovery
Willis is the definition of a high-risk, high-reward type of prospect. The risk? He started out his college career at Florida, before transferring and then dealing with suspensions before taking a year off from football.
The reward? He has a very high ceiling and last year’s tape proves he has the ability to be a force in the NFL.
Willis is very quick and he has the power to go with it to make him a constant disruption for opposing offenses. That said, he still has a long way to go.
He is one of the more raw defensive lineman that will be taken this year and he needs more work on his techniques before he can be the full package. If he can prove that his off-the-field issues are a thing of the past, he would be well worth an investment of a second or third-round selection.
The Vikings have shown that they aren’t scared to take a risk at times when it comes to the NFL Draft. His past likely won’t deter Minnesota from taking him if they think they can take his game to the next level.
As a rookie, Willis will have his share of bumps in the road out on the field. But he is also a guy that should show flashes at times and get fans excited.
