Derrick Baity (Kentucky)
- Size: 6-foot-2, 197 pounds
- 2018 Stats: 38 Tackles, 1 Interception, 7 Pass Breakups
Derrick Baity is a guy the Vikings have shown interest in and both head coach Mike Zimmer and general manager Rick Spielman attended his Pro Day. He’s got the size Zim loves in his corners and is aggressive both in pass coverage and against the run. Baity has natural instincts in coverage and sticks to his man very tightly. He has shown ball-hawking ability and can come down with momentum-swinging interceptions.
Baity is a pretty big hitter and can make the type of hits that gets his teammates and the fans all riled up. The biggest concern for Baity and the reason he is likely to be a Day 3 pick is his lack of speed and specifically recovery speed. If a guy gets behind him, Baity just does not possess the wheels to catch up. That lack of speed is concerning and he also has short arms which doesn’t help when trying to knock down passes that are still high in the air.
Of all the guys on this list, Derrick Baity could be the one with the best chance to end up on the Vikings. Cornerback isn’t a huge need for the team and really shouldn’t be addressed at all in this Draft, but again with Mike Zimmer as the head coach it probably will.
The Vikings have two sixth-round picks and two sevenths. It wouldn’t be surprising for the team to use one of them on this cornerback who they have met with multiple times.
