Week 1
Atlanta Falcons (Home)
- Date: Sunday, September 9
- Time: 1 p.m. EST
- TV: FOX
Since the building opened its massive doors in 2016, the Vikings have yet to lose a home opener inside U.S. Bank Stadium. Although this matchup carries upset potential, Minnesota should be able to take care of business and keep their unbeaten streak in regular season home openers alive.
In three games against the Falcons since Mike Zimmer was hired to be the Vikings’ head coach in 2014, the purple and gold norsemen have come out victorious each and every time. Considering Atlanta is coming off of a season where they only managed seven wins, there are not a ton of reasons to believe that Minnesota won’t come out with a victory once again in this matchup.
Prediction: Vikings win (1-0)
Week 2
Green Bay Packers (Away)
- Date: Sunday, September 15
- Time: 1 p.m. EST
- TV: FOX
Despite the Packers having one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL in Aaron Rodgers, the Vikings have only suffered one loss in their last seven games against Green Bay.
Minnesota would have come away with a win in their road matchup with the Packers last season if not for Daniel Carlson missing three field goal attempts. So the Vikings had to settle for a tie instead.
In 2019, expect this NFC North battle to come down to the wire once again. Green Bay has the luxury of having 10 days in between their season opener and this matchup with Minnesota, so that could end up being an advantage.
Still, the Vikings have proven multiple times under Zimmer that they are fully capable of beating the Packers. Doubting if Minnesota can do it again in 2019 doesn’t seem like a wise decision until they prove otherwise.
Prediction: Vikings win (2-0)
