Nate Davis – OG (Charlotte)
Nate Davis has been a hot name as we inch closer to the draft. It seems like he’s had a visit with just about every team in the NFL, and the Vikings are no exception.
It makes a lot of sense that Minnesota would have interest in this guy. He’s got the size needed at guard standing at 6-foot-3 and tipping the scales at 316 pounds. Davis is stoutly built with a wide upper body and thick lower legs.
His technique is very good and he shows surprising quickness when getting to the second level and making blocks down the field. His lateral agility is also impressive, as he can turn and lead plays around the outside.
Davis was suspended for four games last year due to undisclosed NCAA violations. Whatever those are could be something that causes him to slide down the board in the draft. That issue was likely addressed by teams in all of his meetings and hopefully, for Davis’ sake, he had a decent explanation for the suspension.
If the Vikings are interested in Davis, they will have to take him by the third round. With his big frame, power, and athletic ability, he’d be penciled in as Minnesota’s starting left guard as a rookie.
At this point though, and with all the buzz he’s getting, there’s a decent chance that Davis could be gone before the Vikings go on the clock in the third round.
