Round 2

Erik McCoy – G/C (Texas A&M)

If the Vikings are going to take a cornerback in the first round, they better take an offensive lineman in the second. In this exercise, I’ll draw a name that may not be on the board at pick No. 50, but could be available if Minnesota trades down from pick No. 18 in the first round and gains an extra pick or even trades up in the second round to counter the league’s arms race on offensive linemen.

While many have thrown out several names as perfect fits for what the Kevin Stefanski/Gary Kubiak hybrid offense is looking for, one name to keep an eye on is McCoy. He started 38 straight games for Texas A&M during his career and he posted a speed score in the 97th percentile among offensive linemen at the combine this year.

On tape, McCoy checks all of the boxes as an athletic, sturdy interior lineman. But his arm length is something that concerns scouts. Regardless, scoring McCoy in the second round would be a big win for the Vikings as they continue to try and upgrade their offensive line.
