Round 7

Greg Dortch – WR (Wake Forest)

Although it’s highly unlikely that the Vikings will have just one defensive player selected by this point in the draft, Dortch is another intriguing name that could fill a secondary role for Minnesota.

Coming out after his redshirt sophomore year, Dortch is a playmaker that can get open thanks to his route running. Once he gets the ball, he uses his speed and agility to make defenders miss and create big plays evidenced by his stat line (89 catches, 1,078 yards, 8 touchdowns) last year. Dortch even has the added bonus of being a solid punt returner with two return touchdowns in 2018.

Dortch didn’t have a good workout at the scouting combine and his size (5-foot-7, 173 pounds) is sure to turn some teams off. But with Tarik Cohen’s (5-foot-6, 179 pounds) impact as a chess piece in the Chicago Bears’ offense, it could open the door for Dortch to be an interesting flyer late in the draft.

Trey Pipkins – OT (Sioux Falls)

After passing on the first chance to draft a “One of Us” guy in Minnesota’s Blake Cashman, the Vikings will redeem themselves if they take the chance on Pipkins, a product of Apple Valley, MN here.

Pipkins’ path to draft relevancy has been an interesting one as his only scholarship to play football was at the University of Sioux Falls, a Division II school. As he started to develop into a legitimate draft prospect, he opted to stay with the Cougars and he displayed tremendous athleticism as their starter at left tackle.

With the tools he has, there’s a good chance that Pipkins could be off the board when the Vikings come to the podium with their final pick. But with his intangibles, he’s an intriguing prospect that’s worth a look whenever Minnesota would decide to pull the trigger.
