1. The Minnesota Vikings defense

It’s weird to call the defense winners because the unit didn’t get a lot of attention during the 2019 NFL Draft. However, by loading up on the offensive, the Minnesota Vikings may have done more to help the team than drafting another defender with a top draft pick may have done.

Last season, the team was unable to convert third downs too often and sadly suffered badly in moving the chains, only averaging 2:33 per drive according to Football Outsiders, which was the fifth worst in the league.

The Vikings relied too much on their defense to keep them in games last year, which they did a good job at. However, more sustained drives with longer possessions will keep the defense fresh and control the clock, making everything easier on the guys trying to stop the opposition.

Fewer opportunities for opposing offenses to score and longer drives to win the field position battle as well as the time of possession are the combination to winning games in the NFL, and this year’s draft should help the Minnesota Vikings accomplish that in a major way.
