Dillon Mitchell – WR (Oregon)
With the Vikings second pick in the seventh round, they finally addressed their lack of depth at receiver behind Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen by selecting Mitchell.
The Oregon product is selling high on his college career after posting 75 catches for 1,184 yards and 10 touchdowns during his junior season with the Ducks. He could very well be the answer to Minnesota’s woes of finding a third receiver.
Mitchell was a chess piece for Oregon working in the slot throughout his junior year. While he is smaller than the typical receiver, he’s a plus athlete across the board that has the ability to get open and make a big play after the catch with MockDraftable making comparisons to Reggie Wayne, Jeremy Maclin, and Nelson Agholor.
Working against Mitchell are a couple of things that need to be cleaned up before becoming a starting receiver in the NFL.
His route running is sloppy at times and he suffered from lapses in concentration that resulted in multiple drops. However, such things can be corrected with proper coaching.
Mitchell won’t have to do too much to earn a spot on the Vikings’ roster as Laquon Treadwell literally let his opportunity slip through his hands last year (dropped five of his 53 targets).
With Brandon Zylstra and Chad Beebe turning in underwhelming performances last season as well and Jordan Taylor coming off a year out of the league, the opportunity is there for Mitchell to make the team in 2019.
