Easton Stick – QB

Even though Kirk Cousins is still under contract for the next two seasons, it wouldn’t have been a bad idea for the Vikings to take a chance on a quarterback in the later rounds of this year’s NFL Draft.

Stick was still on the board in the fifth round when Minnesota was on the clock and he could have been that guy.

The former North Dakota State signal-caller, who accounted for 45 total touchdowns in 2018, would have likely been the favorite to land the backup job behind Cousins if the Vikings actually ended up drafting him.

Even if Cousins ended up re-signing with Minnesota in two years, they would still have a young quarterback in Stick that they could use as a trade asset. And we all know how much Vikings general manager Rick Spielman loves himself a good trade.

There’s a possibility that Cousins could even be gone after his current deal runs out in 2021. If that were to actually happen, then Stick could have emerged as someone Minnesota would consider to be their starter.

But the Vikings didn’t draft the former North Dakota State quarterback in the fifth round this year. Instead, Minnesota added former USC linebacker Cameron Smith, who likely won’t be playing anything other than special teams in 2019.
