4. Re-signing Anthony Barr

Heading into the 2019 offseason, everything seemed to be pointing toward Barr’s time with the Vikings coming to an end and him landing a lucrative deal in free agency.

It appeared as if the linebacker not returning to Minnesota was even more likely after a report of him agreeing to join the New York Jets came out. But Barr quickly realized he couldn’t bear the thought of wearing a uniform that would make him look like the jolly green giant and he decided to re-sign with the Vikings instead.

The linebacker took less money to stay in Minnesota and he attributed a lot of his decision to the great culture that the organization has built since Mike Zimmer became the team’s head coach in 2014.

With Barr’s choice to return, Zimmer got one of the leaders of his defense back and the Vikings didn’t have to scramble to find a replacement for the linebacker this offseason. Barr’s role as a defender may have changed over the years, but his importance to the unit’s recent success is still something that should not be disregarded.
