Who could line up at punt returner?

The Vikings aren’t going to have many full speed punt return reps at OTAs this year. But this is the time that teams usually try different things to see if they should further pursue it deeper into the offseason program.

Think of when Minnesota had Anthony Barr line up at defensive end during their 2018 OTAs, but then didn’t do anything to further stir that pot.

This type of situation could come up again as the Vikings look for a punt returner in the wake of Marcus Sherels departing for the New Orleans Saints this year. Mike Hughes may be the leader in the clubhouse, but coming off of a torn ACL, he may not be able to hit the practice field right away.

That could mean Minnesota may turn to speedster Jeff Badet, seventh-round pick Olabisi Johnson, or even Stefon Diggs to try and fill the void. Again, this is the time to get crazy and see if something can stick, so there could be a random opportunity for someone to make a good impression.
