Improved running game

Yes, you read that right. An improved Vikings running game in 2019 will both help and hurt Kirk Cousins.

As stated earlier, it will make life much easier for Cousins next season. A successful running game can bring a defender up into the box, which will free up room down the field for Minnesota’s receivers. He also won’t have to throw the ball as much if the team is picking up huge yardage on the ground series after series.

There lies the problem for Cousins though. This is likely only an issue in the fantasy football world, but if he is handing the ball off more in 2019, his statistics will dip.

He won’t be asked to throw the football 70 percent of the time and his yardage and touchdowns could decrease. Obviously, fans won’t give two hoots if the team goes 12-4 and Cousins throws for only 3,500 yards and 20 touchdowns.

The fact of the matter is that a better run game as a whole will make this offense and team much better. The downside for Cousins is that it could also take a large bite out of his impressive stats from a season ago.
